The inner lining of the windpipe also contains motile cilia. In the windpipe, they clean the lungs and dirt particles from the lungs. Motile cilia are also present in fallopian tubes. Non-motile cilia are present in every body cell. They do not have a rhythmic beating. They are present in the nose, eyes and other sensory organs of the body.

What Are Flagella?

Flagella are also responsible for the movement of the cell, just like cilia. The flagella are longer in length than cilia. They have a thread-like structure. They are present on the outer surface of the cell. Flagella can vary in size their length. They move very slowly as compared to cilia and have waves like movements. The number of flagella on a single is few, up to 10 on each cell. Both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells have flagella. The word flagella come from the Latin word whip.


Types Of Flagella:

There are three types of flagella; Bacterial flagella, Archae flagella, and Eukaryotic flagella.

-Bacterial flagella have a helical shape. They have screw-like rotation. E-coli. and other bacterias have the bacterial type of flagella. They provide movement to the bacterias. Bacterial flagella may vary in numbers, they can be one, two, six or more in numbers.
-Archae flagella do not a certain channel. They are almost similar to the bacterial flagella.
-Eukaryotic flagella have very complex structures. Some common examples of them are flagella of sperm cells. The eukaryotic flagella propel the sperm cells to the female reproductive tract. Some men have flagellum dysfunction. The problem can lead to infertility because the sperm cell is not motile that it can reach the egg for fertilization
