Difference Between Cytoplasm And Cytosol. In this article, you will get to know what is cytoplasm, what is cytosol, what is the main difference between cytoplasm and cytosol and the comparison between cytoplasm and cytosol. The cell of a living organism consists of many parts. The two parts namely cytoplasm and cytosol, sometimes confuse the people as they sound similar. Today we will learn the difference between them.
Difference Between Cytoplasm And Cytosol:
The main difference between cytoplasm and cytosol is only that the cytosol is the aqueous portion present in the cytoplasm. The cytosol is the major component of the cytoplasm because it has all the material of cell in it; that’s why it doesn’t create much difference between cytoplasm and cytosol.
What Is Cytoplasm?
The cytoplasm comprises all the material present in a cell. All the components are surrounded by a cell membrane. The nucleus is not considered part of the cytoplasm. Because, the components of the nucleus, itself form the nucleoplasm. The cytoplasm is a colourless material. It has 80% of the water in it. The organelles are also present along with cytoplasmic inclusion.
All the biological portion of the cell is enveloped by a plasma membrane. This portion excluding the nucleus is called the cytoplasm. This named was suggested by Rudolf Von Kolliker in 1863. The cytoplasm consists of cytosol, organelles, mitochondria, lysosomes, Golgi body, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, etc. It is found and appears in various shapes like glass, sol-gel, and unconventional shapes. It is part of the protoplasm.
The cytoplasm does not include the nucleus in the eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotic cells, the cellular DNA is excluded. The term cytoplasm is relevant in modern biology. The main activities of the cell take place in the cytoplasm like glycolysis and cell division takes place in the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm consists of two regions; the inner endoplasm and the outer ectoplasm.
What Is Cytosol?
There is not any significant difference in the cytoplasm and cytosol. The cytosol is the part of the cytoplasm. It is an aqueous component of the cytoplasm. This portion is not contained within the organelles. It is also called a cytoplasmic matrix. Up to 70% of the cell is composed of cytosol. The cytosol consists of filaments, small molecules, water and cytoskeleton, ribosomes, vault complexes and the proteasome. Metabolites and small ions are also present in the cytosol because they regulate the cellular processes.
In plants, vacuole takes place of the cytoplasm, while in bacterial cells it covers most of the structure of the cell.
Main Difference Between Cytoplasm And Cytosol:
-Cytosol is the part of the cytoplasm, while cytoplasm consists of everything present in the cell except the nucleus.
-Cytoplasm has organelles, on the other hand, cytosol does not.
