So that many other systems can use it. Encoding is not used for security purposes. The most common code or algorithm that is used by computers for text files is ‘ASCII’. It stands for American Standard Code For Information Interchange. This code is the combination of Upper and lower case alphabets, punctuation marks, numerals, and common symbols. What Is Encryption?

Encryption is the process in which we convert readable data or information into unreadable characters. This is done to prevent any unauthorized access to the data. The encrypted data is treated just like any other data. You can store it or send it in an e-mail message. If you want to access or read the data, it should be decrypted or decipher first to make it into readable form.

The original message is converted to an unrecognizable message in order to send it through the network. It cannot be identified, thus the hacker cannot steal it. A special encryption algorithm and a key are used to convert the original data into encrypted data. This converted data is known as Ciphertext. And encryption is also known as enciphering.
