The main difference between endocytosis and exocytosis is that endocytosis is the process to eliminate the waste material to the outer environment. On the other hand, exocytosis is the process that takes the substances to the inner environment from the outer environment.
What Is Endocytosis?
Endocytosis is a process that traps particles and other various substances from the outer environment. ‘Endon’ means within that’s why it is called endocytosis. There is the movement of bulk particles and substances across the plasma membrane instead of the individual particles. The waste material is eliminated to the outer environment from the cell exocytosis.
Types Of Endocytosis:
There are three types of endocytosis; Phagocytosis, Pinocytosis, and Receptor-mediated endocytosis. Phagocytosis is cellular eating. In this process, the cell takes the solid material from the outer environment. A lysosome that is actually an organelle, combines with a vesicle. They form a phagolysosome, which is a digestion vacuole. The lysosomal digestive enzymes break down the contents of the vesicle. Amoeba and white blood cells are some examples of phagocytosis.
Pinocytosis is referred to as cellular drinking. In this process, the cell intakes small droplets of extracellular fluid. If a fluid contains any solid, it is also taken into the cell. Whenever there is a small indention in a plasma membrane, the process of pinocytosis occurs.
Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis is also known as clathrin-mediated endocytosis. It involves the specific type of receptor protein on the plasma membrane. This receptor protein recognizes the extracellular molecule and gets bound by it. This process absorbs the metabolites, hormones, or proteins by the inward budding of the plasma membrane.
What Is Exocytosis?
Exocytosis is the process in which vesicles fuse with the plasma membrane to release the particles and other materials to the inner environment of the cell. ‘Exo’ means outside, that’s why it is named endocytosis. Exocytosis adds a new membrane in place of the plasma membrane that was lost during the process of endocytosis. This process is a type of active transport as it needs energy.
Main difference Between Endocytosis And Exocytosis:
