Difference Between Endocytosis and Pinocytosis. In this article, you will read about what is endocytosis, what is pinocytosis, and what is the main difference between endocytosis and pinocytosis. Endocytosis and Pinocytosis are interrelated to each other. We will differentiate between them in the below article.
What Is The Main Difference Between Endocytosis And Pinocytosis?
The main difference between endocytosis and pinocytosis is that the:
-Endocytosis is the process to eliminate the waste material to the outer environment.
-Pinocytosis is the type of endocytosis. It is the intake of liquid matter inside the extracellular spaces of the cell. It is not a selective process and simply takes place through the cell membrane.
What Is Endocytosis?
Endocytosis is a process that traps particles and other various substances from the outer environment. ‘Endon’ means within that’s why it is called endocytosis. There is the movement of bulk particles and substances across the plasma membrane instead of the individual particles. The waste material is eliminated to the outer environment from the cell exocytosis.
Types Of Endocytosis:
There are three types of endocytosis; Phagocytosis, Pinocytosis, and Receptor-mediated endocytosis. Phagocytosis is cellular eating. In this process, the cell takes the solid material from the outer environment. A lysosome that is actually an organelle, combines with a vesicle. They form a phagolysosome, which is a digestion vacuole. The lysosomal digestive enzymes break down the contents of the vesicle. Amoeba and white blood cells are some examples of phagocytosis.
Pinocytosis is referred to as cellular drinking. In this process, the cell intakes small droplets of extracellular fluid. If a fluid contains any solid, it is also taken into the cell. Whenever there is a small indention in a plasma membrane, the process of pinocytosis occurs.
Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis is also known as clathrin-mediated endocytosis. It involves the specific type of receptor protein on the plasma membrane. This receptor protein recognizes the extracellular molecule and gets bound by it. This process absorbs the metabolites, hormones, or proteins by the inward budding of the plasma membrane.
What Is Pinocytosis?
Pinocytosis is also referred to as ‘cell drinking’. It is a type of endocytosis that intake the liquids along with their solutes into the cell. If a fluid contains any solid, it is also taken into the cell. Whenever there is a small indention in a plasma membrane, the process of pinocytosis occurs. This happens by the budding of a small vesicle called a pinosome from the plasma membrane. The liquid is absorbed into the cytoplasm and the remaining liquids present in the vesicles fuses with the lysosome.
