What is Hydrolysis?

The cleavage of the chemical bond in the presence of water is called hydrolysis. Water act as a reactant in this whole procedure. In this type of reaction, larger molecules are broken down into smaller molecules. That’s why reactant always has complex molecules, unlike the other products. A water molecule is added along with the reactant molecule, which split the chemical bond present in the reactant.

At the hydrolysis of the large molecule, the two small molecules are formed from the water molecule. Hydrolysis is the process that is the opposite of condensation. Because in condensation reactions water molecules are formed, while in hydrolysis reactions water molecules are consumed.

What Is Dehydration Synthesis?

In the process of dehydration synthesis, larger molecules are formed with the release of water molecules. A water molecule is released when two or smaller molecules form a covalent bond with each other. Therefore, the complex compounds are the final products of dehydration synthesis. In simple words, large molecules are produced in the dehydration synthesis. The dehydration synthesis is the combination of reactions happening at a time.

The dehydration synthesis reactions can also be called condensation reaction because in condensation there is also the formation of water molecules. In dehydration synthesis, larger molecules are formed by the releasing of water molecules.
