What Is Pinocytosis?
Pinocytosis is also referred to as ‘cell drinking’. It is a type of endocytosis that intake the liquids along with their solutes into the cell. If a fluid contains any solid, it is also taken into the cell. Whenever there is a small indention in a plasma membrane, the process of pinocytosis occurs. This happens by the budding of a small vesicle called a pinosome from the plasma membrane. The liquid is absorbed into the cytoplasm and the remaining liquids present in the vesicles fuses with the lysosome.
What Is Receptor Mediated Endocytosis?
Receptor Mediated Endocytosis is also known as clathrin-mediated endocytosis. It is another process and type of endocytosis. It generally intakes solid material and solutes into the cell. RME is a selective process, which selects the molecules like nutrient or proteins.
Unlike pinocytosis, receptors on the cell membrane are involved in Receptor-Mediated Endocytosis. When a cell has to absorb a nutrient or any protein, a large molecule like protein called clathrin is formed in the inner plasma membrane. Then, this molecule is budded into the coated vesicle inside the cytoplasm.
